What is the Amazon Effect?
The Amazon Effect is industry name for the shortage and exploding cost of cardboard.
In the past, most products were shipped to retail stores in their cardboard packaging, then the stores would recycle the cardboard and get it back into the supply chain. Most of us have seen the large cardboard compactors that are behind retail stores.

What is happening now, is that so many products are being shipped directly to end users / people's home, and the shipping boxes are being thrown away or recycled in inefficient ways. Because of this, the supply of usable and recycled cardboard has plummeted and most boxes and cardboard products are now being made out of "Virgin" cardboard which is much, much more expensive.

The cost of cardboard has gone up over 30% in the last 2 years!
